Be Thankful & Creative!
This year, bring art to the Thanksgiving table.
Below are FIVE projects that will inspire and help you get creative. As you gather with family and close friends you can become their art ambassador. All of these projects are easy, affordable, and fun (and pair perfectly with pumpkin pie!)
LEAF WOOD SLICE TUTORIAL
Wood slices are such a fun surface to paint on. You can find bags of wood slices at the local hobby store or simply do a search on Amazon and you can find them affordably.
This project is great for all ages and makes beautiful decorations for your Thanksgiving table!
Supplies Needed:
- Wood Slices
- Paint (acrylic works best)
- Brushes, Palette, Napkins
- Water (to clean paint but also to use on the wood slice)
- Graphite paper and pencil
- Stencils - Download this leaf stencil
Tips: Wood slices can be pretty dry, using paint with water will help the color absorb into the shape. With graphite paper, you can stencil any shape onto the wood. If you don't have graphite paper, simply cut the leaf shape out and trace around the leaf.
STICHES THE SCARECROW
Scarecrow fun fact: During the medieval times of Britain, the scarecrows originated as actual young children who would go through the fields throwing stones when birds would land in the fields. They would also bang on items called clappers (two pieces of flat wood banged together) to chase them away. Now that scarecrows have replaced the kids, here is a fun painting for them to do instead!
Supplies Needed:
- Canvas or Paper (you can even paint on recycled cardboard or chipboard)
- Acrylic Paint (You can do this with markers or crayons too!)
- Standard Paint Set Up - brushes, water cup, paper towel, palette or paper plate
